About....

I have been involved with Belgians since 1989 living at that time near Edmonton, Alberta. My first Groenendael's were from the Torbrook Kennels. In 1992 Windmar was formally registered with the CKC and in 1993 I had my first Belgian litter. That first litter was a learning experience and due to later health issue's with the dam, she was spayed. In 1997 I acquired a female from the Spitfire Kennels in Texas (Ch. Spitfire Lonestar Jamboree HIC) who became my foundation female and she lived up to the task in every way. Bree produced 4 litters of which had some lovely companions as well as some wonderful working dogs. Some of her offspring have gone on and produced litters themselves passing on her wonderful attributes. All my breeding stock is OFA'd for hips and elbows, CERF'd for eyes, and seizure free.
I enjoy being involved in the community with my Belgians and require a temperament that is social, easy going, and confident. I like a slightly softer temperament in the Belgian as they are easier to train and live with but also like one that is confident and can handle stressful situations, new environments, and one that enjoys doing activities with it's owner. I try and strive to acheive this in all my breedings and when looking at stud dogs for my girls: I carefully look at health, temperament, and working drive. I have 1 litter every 2-3 years.
In 2001 I moved to southern Alberta and found many more dog sports to be involved with. I am a long time member of the Canadian Kennel Club as well as the Belgian Shepherd Dog Club of Canada. For many years I have enjoyed membership with SAWDA (Southern Alberta Working Herding Dog Association) and with my dogs have attended Pet Expos, Parades, Pet visitation at Seniors Centers, Community Events, Festivals, Carting Events, Agility Demos....and the list is on going! I have found a passion with herding and agility and am very lucky that I am close to trainers and events. I have and continue to trial my Belgians in Obedience, Rally, Agility, Herding as well as showing in Conformation.
